介绍Introduction
Many factors of the modern world lead us away from personal reality and truths. In a mechanized world, people’s life becomes absurd, perhaps weird and often painful. People like to believe they are seeing things as they are.
Like the frog who believes the sky is only as big as the mouth of the well he occupies in the famous Chinese proverb about short-sightedness.
To express a sense of absurdity and weirdness highlighting our need to reconnect with our surroundings I have create a startling series of fully operational, ceramic puppet characters and begun a series of short films to bring these characters and their absurdist notions to life. Serious in ceramic intent, and delicious in their form and detail, the fluidity and movement of puppetry brings a surprising edge to the medium.
Using plaster and slip casting techniques and decorated with delicate enamels and luster detailing, the characters bodies reference not only ceramic traditions but point to the extravagance and delights of iconic contemporary fashion and its extension of body elements.
I am keen to continue making these unexpected moveable ceramics and exploring the opportunities the ceramic narrative space offers.

过程Process
The production process of this project involves the use of slip casting to reduce the weight of the dolls and make each component easy to connect. Speckled enamel and luster are used as decorative elements to mimic the texture of frog skin.
最终效果Final Works
I have given a collective name to these frog toys – Wowwow. The pronunciation of “Wow” in English sounds similar to the pronunciation of “蛙” (wā), which means frog in Chinese. I hope this series of works can bring a surprise to everyone and to the material of ceramics.

This is a puppetry animation adapted from the Chinese fable “The Frog in the Well”. It tells the story of a frog engaging in a dialogue with its own soul, pulling itself out of the well, and discovering a whole new world.
